US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to officiate another same-sex wedding

WASHINGTON — U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will officiate another same-sex wedding this weekend in New York.

Ginsburg will officiate the ceremony for Danny Rubens, her former law clerk, and his soon-to-be spouse Danny Grossman, also an attorney, reports Deadline Detroit.

Ginsburg became the first Supreme Court justice to preside over a same-sex wedding when she officiate the ceremony of Kennedy Center President Michael Kaiser and John Roberts, a government economist, in August 2013.

Last month, Ginsburg said the Supreme Court won’t duck the issue of same-sex marriage the next time a case comes to the court.

The 81-year-old Ginsburg said in an interview with The Associated Press that she expects a same-sex marriage case to be heard and decided by June 2016, and possibly a year earlier.

Robert A. Sedler, a Constitutional Law professor at Wayne State University, says Ginsburg’s officiating won’t create any conflict of interest issues before the court.

“She has the authority under New York law to preside over the wedding,” he said. “Same-sex marriages are legal in New York.” He said her officiating is no indication of bias.
