Should Justice Ginsburg retire?

Ars Skeptica

No, and here’s why in her own words

Just a couple of months back I wondered out loud as to why Justice Ginsburg shows no signs of retiring while President Obama still warms the chair in the Oval Office, especially given her age, health, the precarious balance of the Supreme Court, and the lack of any guarantee that there will be a solid shot later at at least a half-decent successor for her.

With a hat-tip to ThinkProgress for pointing the way, here’s Justice Ginsburg in her own words, courtesy of an interview with Elle magazine’s Jessica Weisberg:

Is it time for Justice Ginsburg to retire?

Ars Skeptica

Is going strong, going long good for the country?

Having just read this article from the Washington Examiner, I find myself a bit perplexed and asking not only whether Justice Ginsburg should retire, but why won’t she of her own accord?

“I will do this job as long as I can do it full-steam,” Ginsburg said. “When I feel myself slipping, when I can no longer think as sharply, write as quickly — that will be the time for me to leave the court.”

The article concludes, and fairly at that:

The nightmare scenario for liberal court watchers would be a replay of 1968, in which a liberal justice, Ginsburg, dies or is forced to retire under a Republican Senate and president. If this occurs, the court’s swing vote could move one member to the right, from the unpredictable Justice Anthony Kennedy to Chief Justice John Roberts, who is…

Finally just pulled the Facebook plug

I have been contemplating pulling the pull on Facebook as well. Please keep us updated as if you keep the plug pulled or if you get pulled back in.

Ars Skeptica

It took me a while and a measure of forgetfulness, but the deed is done

Since my last post on the subject of Facebook (see Goodbye, Facebook below), I’ve paid next to no attention to it at all, reminded of its existence only by the slow feed of occasional email notifications, an onslaught that slowed to a trickle once I stopped feeding the best. Once in a while I’d click a guilty click to see a picture, perhaps of a friend’s newborn. Other times I was curious to see if the powers that be at Facebook ever bothered to get back to me on my request to cancel my Ars Skeptica page.

A quick bit about that, as an aside:

Christians can’t comprehend geography?

I have often wondered why some people were so upset by the concept of Jesus not being Caucasian.

GachiYellow

Why is it the even though the Bible makes it clear all events take place in the Middle East and or Africayet everyone believes people in the Bible are Causation? To my knowledge Europeans were only mentioned when Rome conquered Israel. What were they called? GENTILES.  There are very, and I mean very, few Caucasians mentioned in The Holy Bible. I’m not trying to be controversial or hurt anyone feelings. This is FACT. I’m tired of people trying to distort facts. The Holy Bible does not revolve around Europe.

It’s very simple people; Europe = White people, Africa = Black people, Middle East = Middle Eastern people — which is a mix of Blacks and Asians. Geography is your friend. LEARN IT! Enough of my words. What does The Holy Bible have to say it’s peoples skin color?

Job 30:30
My skin is black upon me, and…

Video: William Shatner & LeVar Burton drink wine & talk Reading Rainbow

KIRK AND BURTON

Burton and Shatner Talk Life over Wine

LeVar Burton is billed as an “educator” in the the latest installment of William Shatner’s Brown Bag Wine Tasting. He’s certainly that, though most people probably think of Burton as an actor first. Either way, the former Star Trek: The Next Generation star and Reading Rainbow creator/host chats with Star Trek’s original Captain Kirk as they drink a mystery bottle of white wine, the label of which is obscured by a brown bag. That’s the concept of the Ora.tv show: drink and talk, drink and talk, and drink and talk some more.

Shatner steers the conversation from Burton’s life and career to the merits of the wine being imbibed. Shatner asks Burton to recount his youth, prompting Burton to note, “If we’re going to talk about my childhood, wine should be involved.” Shatner then asks Burton to describe the wine as if it were a child; trust us, you don’t want to mishttp://on.ora.tv/1lM6514s that exchange. Burton later pays heartfelt tribute to his mom and also discusses how Reading Rainbowhas evolved from its days as an iconic educational television show into a modern-day digital library. And, yes, by the end, Shatner reveals the identity of that wine they’ve been drinking.
