 The Five Best (And Worst)

So you think

Throughout the years, I have not been the biggest fans of reality shows.  Partially because I just think that they haven’t shown me anything that actually care about nor want to see.

So, naturally, when I heard that there were gay porn reality shows, well that caught my attention.  Mind you, I should have known it was the natural evolution.  Porn has been making fun of and copying movie ideas for years.

There was rumors in the gay porn industry that Broke Straight Boys were going to attempt to follow the lives of the gay-for-pay (heterosexual) models that would address the effects of doing gay porn had on their lives and relationships.  The trailer was disappointing at best.

Which brings us to the BIG QUESTION:

“Does anyone want to watch a gay porn reality show?”

I am inclined to think yes, because people turned in for interactive and behind the scenes filming of an Andrew Christian Underwear Model Photo Shoot.

So, I have compiled a list of the best & worst of these shows, complete with a brief video and a review.

Hollywood201

Hollywood201 is basically the gay porn reality show equivalent of The Real Housewives.  The series was produced by Afton Nills,a gay porn casting recruiter. The show followed 4 up-and-coming gay porn stars who moved to Los Angeles to “make names for themselves.”  The show was an infamous & notorious flop possibly because it didn’t have any plot beyond twinky porn stars arguing with each other.  It only lasted for one two-part episode.

Fratpad

Modern “reality” gay porn was born with Fratpad.  The site was launched and marketed in 2006 as a “live broadcast” from a bachelor mansion where a collection of frat boys lived, worked out, and occasionally had sex on camera for subscribers buying into the fantasy. Fratpad’s success was due largely to its daily one-on-one videos with the models, which provided a more personable experience.

Broke Straight Boys TV

Almost two years after its initial announcement, a premiere date has still not been set.  It appears that it’s nothing more than an updated version of Fratpad.  But what makes it ridiculous and not really a gay porn reality show is that outside of the fact that it’s men who are gay-for-pay, there is nothing inherently gay about it — the straight boys are straight, they party with women, and argue over their girlfriends.    Broke Straight Boys TV is a concept that has been floating around the web for years now, though its become a hot topic again now that the production company has managed to make a first-peak trailer.

 Project GoGo Boy

Project GoGo Boy by Cockyboys’ seems to be more of a social experiment than an actual reality show, considering that much of the six-part series was scripted.  The concept of  it was structured as a “reality” series that mirrored the real-life drama these part-time gogo boys/porn stars were facing.  The show series was packaged as a film and went on to win six of its 14 award nominations, including a “Best Newcomer” tie for Jake Bass and Max Ryder, the twinks who went on to bring the studio to its current glory.

Dominic Ford’s “So You Think You Can Fuck”

It’s a “Survivor meets hardcore gay porn” parody series that pits a handful of gay porn stars — both rookies and seasoned veterans — against one another in a 10-week competition to see which will be crowned the greatest of them all.  I found the show is very slow-paced and slightly boring.   We’ll spare you the details of exactly how they are judged, but they are judged by an impressive  panel that has featured Shangela from RuPaul’s Drag Race and Gay Porn Blog’s Jack Shamama in previous seasons.
