LAPD gets exotic Lamborghini Gallardo police car
Who doesn’t love to see a supercar decked out in police livery with flashing lights fixed to the roof?
The Los Angeles Police Department recently took delivery of a stunning Lamborghini Gallardo with a classic LAPD black-and-white wrap, courtesy of Nathalie and Travis Marg of the telecommunications contractor Light Source 1, Inc. The 10-cylinder cop car is with the LAPD’s Rampart Division, which posted a photo introducing the car with the message “You can run, but you can’t hide.”
Fortunately, we won’t be seeing the Gallardo involved in any high-speed chases: the Margs have temporarily donated their own Gallardo to the LAPD for use as an attraction in charity events benefitting the LAPD’s Air Support Team. That’s right; if you thought the LAPD Gallardo couldn’t get cooler, just remember that wherever it shows up, there’s a good chance a police chopper will be there along with it.

The “LAPD Lambo,” as it’s known, is already a media sensation in Los Angeles. The Gallardo not only has its own website, but there are already Instagram and Twitter accounts for it. The @LAPDLambo Twitter account is written from the perspective of the car itself, and so far has served to let Los Angeles residents know that it won’t be patrolling the streets and that the Margs will be picking up the tab, not taxpayers.
The United Kingdom used to be the leaders in absurd law enforcement vehicles, employing everything from Ford Escort Cosworths and RS200s to Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions, Jaguar XFs, Lotus Evoras, a Subaru STI, Ferrari 612 Scaglietti and currently even a Caparo T1 for various purposes. We’ve seen tuned 911s patrolling the Autobahn, and Lamborghinis in the service of Italian police.
Today the most insane, over-the-top police cars can be found in Dubai. With a Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari FF, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, and even an Aston Martin One-77 among its fleet, Dubai’s police cars comprise one of the most impressive high-end garages in the world.
In the recent past, we’ve seen high-powered police vehicles here in the U.S. both as showpieces and in actual use. Those cars have generally been American, such as the Cadillac CTS-V pursuit car in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Chevrolets in various states and even a Dodge Viper or two.
The LAPD Lambo is a first, and an escalation in the “our police force’s supercar is cooler than your police force’s supercar” race, which we’re pretty sure doesn’t exist. In any case, if you’re in the Los Angeles area on March 21 or 22, you can check out the LAPD Lambo for yourself as it makes its big public debut at the Los Angeles County Air Show.
